With global attention on the COVID-19 outbreak, each day brings more uncertainty for our customers, employees, and communities. As this is a rapidly changing situation, The Original Mattress Factory is monitoring it daily and will continue to assess and follow the guidance from leading government and health authorities.
We are taking the following steps to provide a safe mattress buying experience for our customers and a healthy working environment for our employees:
We are taking preventative measures and being extra diligent to keep our stores and factories clean. Our stores are cleaned daily and we have increased our associates’ focus on cleaning and disinfecting any commonly used surfaces to ensure that they are wiped down several times a day.
We are encouraging any employees who are not feeling well to stay home and have adjusted our attendance policies as to be fair to employees who need to take time away from work.
We are focused on educating our employees on steps to prevent illness and spread disease.
We will continue to monitor what is happening in our local markets and plan to adjust business operations and policies as needed. Thank you for continued loyalty, and be well.
Greg Trzcinski, President, The Original Mattress Factory
A note to our customers about coronavirus: Your health and safety is our highest priority.
Feel ratings are on a numeric scale of 0 to 100, with the higher the number, the harder the feel of the mattress. In order to “score” each of our mattresses on this scale, we performed a series of firmness tests with a Cornell Tester to measure the firmness of each mattress. These ratings were converted to a 100-point scale by taking the ratio of each firmness rating to that of the highest reading. Using this method, we defined our hardest product, the Orthopedic Ultra Firm, as a 100. All other scores were calculated on a relative basis.
Durability ratings are on a numeric scale of 0 to 10 for comparison purposes and listed as “Short” to “Long”. Because the useful life of a mattress can vary significantly for individuals based on a number of different factors, we started by using an average lifetime of 8 – 12 years for a top of the line mattress as our baseline. We then estimated performance values for durability based on product performance and expectations. For example, more wire in an innerspring translates to a higher score. The use of a real working box springs would also translate into a higher score.
Support ratings are on a numeric scale of 0 to 10 for comparison purposes and listed as “Low” to “High”. The support scale is based on our line of innersprings and whether or not a mattress is used alone or with a box spring. We started with our top of the line mattress sets scoring a 10 based on product performance and expectations. The score drops through our line as the amount of wire decreases. Less wire equates to less support and the scores are set to reflect this.
